Abstract:

In this talk we will discuss Maxwell's equations in a variety of materials and discuss what "compatible" discretizations for such systems entail. In particular, we will discuss the use of numerical dispersion error as an optimization criteria for generating better compatible discretizations of Maxwell's equations with lower numerical dispersion error than existing discretizations. This is joint work with Vitaliy Gyrya at LANL, and Duncan Mcgregor at Sandia.
