Abstract: 

I will begin by reviewing the strong connection between the role of continued fractions in homogeneous Diophantine approximation and the use of divided cells to answer inhomogeneous questions. I will then present joint work with Richard Bumby that has strengthened this connection in a way that has allowed us to both simplify the divided cell algorithm and apply homogeneous techniques to improve our understanding of the inhomogeneous spectrum.
