Abstract: 

Persistent homology is one of several tools from algebraic topology that's been
applied to data analysis. It concentrates on describing the connectivity, and
the holes, in data. We review persistent homology, then move on to 2-parameter
persistent homology, a generalization of the technique that allows better
robustness to noise, or deeper understanding of structure. We'll also introduce
RIVET, a tool for visualizing the structure that 2-parameter persistence can
discover.
