There will be a quizz on Friday 9-3-04 on sections 12.1,12.2 and 12.3.
Since classes are cancelled on Friday 9-3-04 (because of the hurricane),
the above quizz will be postponed.
Instead we will have it on Wednesday 9-8-04 (and NOT on Monday 9-6-04 -as previously announced here-
because that day is Labor Day).

Note on problem 12.4, #14 (a HW problem we discussed in class). A much more elegant way is to write f(z) for z<>0
in polar form: f(z)=r^2 cos(2 theta)/r=r cos(2 theta). Then immediately lim_{r->0}f(z)=0=f(0) and continuity of f(z)
at z=0 is proved.

A second quizz is scheduled on Friday 9-24-04. It is on sections 12.6, 12.7 and 12.8.
This quizz is closed book. Calculators are allowed but not needed.

The third quizz is on Wednesday 10-27-04 and covers chapter 13. Again, this is a closed book quizz and
you may use, but won't need a calculator.

There will be a review session on Friday 10-29-04 about the material of the first exam (chapters 12,13,14 and 15).
The purpose of this session is that YOU ask me any QUESTIONS you may have;
it is not to give you a practice test (you should
get practice by solving homework problems). SO PLEASE, PREPARE QUESTIONS! Otherwise we will waste both your and my time.
In addition, we will review the formulas you need to memorize and those that I will provide to you during the exam.

The first exam is on Friday 11-5-04 on chapters 12,13,14 and 15.

Following exam 1, I assigned a current grade, see the copies of your exams. The distribution was: 30% for 3 quizzes
(your worst homework score was dropped), 40% for homework and 30% for the exam.
For the grade scale, see the syllabus. The average score of the test was 34 (max was 50).

- 1. The optional final exam is in our classroom on Friday December 17
between 12:30 and 2:30.
2. It is OPEN BOOK and the use of calculators will be allowed.
3. Recall the weights that were used for calculating the current grade:
3 quizzes (totaling 25%), 10 HW (totaling 35%, worst score was dropped), 2
exams (totaling 40%).
4. If you do decide to take the final, then the following weights will be
used in calculating your new grade:
3 quizzes (20%), 2 exams (30%), 10 HW (20%, worst score will be dropped),
1 final exam (30%).
NOTICE THE SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT FOR THE FINAL EXAM!!!
5. If you take the final, then your
total grade will be the maximum of your current grade
and the new grade after the final.
If you decide not to take the final, then your total grade will be your
current grade.
