MTH 306H: Matrix and Power Series Methods, Winter, 2016

Prerequisite: MTH 252 [C-] or MTH 252H [C-] and Honors College approval required.
Topics: Introduction to matrix algebra, determinants, systematic solution to linear systems, and eigenvalue problems. Convergence and divergence of series with emphasis on power series, Taylor series expansions, convergence tests for power series, and error estimates for truncated series used in practical approximations.
Textbook: J. Lee, Matrix and Power Series Methods., Wiley, 5th edition.
Homework will be assigned but not collected. Two 50 min Tests will be given. Quizs will be given weekly, and a cumulative score will be recorded. The Final Exam is the third Test. The Grade for the course is determined by the best three of these four scores. Test, Quiz and Final Exam problems come directly from the assigned Homework.
Tentative Test Dates: February 1, February 29.
Final Exam: Tuesday, March 15, 0930.
