Abstract:

Success rates in courses at the calculus level and below are a topic of much concern nationally.  Although success rates in these courses are often at the 60% level or even lower, the University of Michigan has consistently achieved success rates above 85% through the use of small, highly uniform sections in which classroom time is spent in ways that engage the students in active learning.  In this presentation, I will discuss the Michigan Introductory Mathematics Program and how the program is supported.

Karen Rhea will also give the STEM Center Seminar on Tuesday, 12 February 2013.
