Abstract:

The calculus sequence is a foundational experience for all STEM majors. At O.S.U., the last decade has been marked with measurable progress across many factors (e.g. improved shared experience, lower DFW rates, content alignment, introduction of instructor coordination, etc.) Taking this progress to the next level, a Calculus Remodel initiative was launched spring 2020. This presentation will provide an overview and update on the progress of this initiative. The shift to open-source material, a low-cost online homework system, department learning objectives, a new assessment model, and much more will be discussed. Although this progress report will focus on 251 and 252, considerations for the ways in which this student-centered remodel can be extended to the entire calculus sequence will be made.
