Abstract: 

The Euler top equations describe the inertial motions of a generic rigid body as it rotates about its center of mass. The Euler top is a relatively simple classical mechanical system with lots of geometric and algebraic structure that comes about due to relatively intuitive physical principals and can be solved using only the Jacobi theory of elliptic functions. This makes it a good completely integrable system to study when first getting familiar with the general theory. During the meeting this week I will introduce this system, and discuss some topics related to this system that we can pursue as a group in subsequent meeting. (zoom password: 409844)
