Abstract:

What does it look like to transition from a PhD in mathematics to a career in software engineering? In this talk, I will discuss how one might transition from academia to industry: from navigating the job search process to the day-to-day work as a software engineer. I will draw on my recent experience of finishing a PhD in mathematics and working as a software engineer at Esri, working on applications of computational geometry to geographic information systems technology.
