At the heart of my research in mathematics education resides a deep interest in supporting meaningful student engagement in mathematical practices. During this presentation, I will talk about the different areas of my research, which include attending to mathematics teacher preparation and supporting mathematics teachers at all levels of instruction. In particular, my doctoral research was concerned with mathematics graduate students? preparation for university mathematics teaching, while my current research is focused on professional development opportunities for elementary and secondary mathematics teachers. I will describe my past and current research, summarize results, and illustrate how the different paths of my research interests inform each other.  Then I will show how these ideas merge together to create a new line of research into university mathematics teaching. Specifically, I am currently working to develop of a framework for exploring and describing important elements of university mathematics instruction that support undergraduate student engagement in mathematical thinking and practices.
