Abstract:

A basic question in dynamical systems is when are two systems
isomorphic. Starting from rotations of the circle and flows on tori I will
talk about the fact that typical interval exchanges and flows on flat
surfaces are not isomorphic. In fact, they satisfy a stronger property
called being disjoint. I will mention some consequences of these results
and open questions. This includes joint work with Vaibhav Gadre and Pascal
Hubert.
