Abstract: 

The Kontesvich integral is an integral on a knot that gives a series of numbers associated to chord diagrams.  It is used to prove the fundamental theorem of Vassiliev invariants and is itself an interesting knot invariant. My talk will give the definition of this invariant, a few basic properties, and an example calculation of the coefficient of one chord diagram in the series for the unknot with 2 maxima.
