The CGRB Colloquium will replace the mathematical Biology seminar.

Genetic sequences are analyzed using a dynamic programming method called local alignment and the powerful widely used heuristic BLAST. However the volume of Next
Generation Sequence data has inspired a new approach for sequence comparison using word counts which avoids sequence alignment. Much of the attention has been given to the
statistical analysis of the simple statistics which have some surprising properties.
