Rubik’s Cube (“The Cube” for short) holds many mathematical properties. Besides the obvious symmetries of the 3-dimensional (geometric) cube, group theory governs the properties of the The Cube (and is, in fact, the basis for it’s solution). In this interactive and hands-on exploration, we will use The Cube to exhibit a non-traditional example of a group, and so we will start with the definition of a group (so this will be accessible to math-enthusiasts of all levels). This gives a different (and perhaps enlightening) visual perspective as to the effect of operations on group elements.
