Abstract:

We present an explicit example of a higher genus Riemann surface which can be described as a quotient of hyperbolic space. This example is Klein's curve of genus 3, originally discovered by Felix Klein in 1878. We sketch the details of his construction of this surface via side-pairings of a regular hyperbolic 14-gon in the unit disc, and relate this to the modern hyperbolic representation of a particular dessin.
