Many well known braid group representations have a parameter. I will show how to carefully choose evaluations of the parameter to force the representation to be discrete, and sometimes even land in a lattice. It is surprising and exciting to see how careful algebraic constructions can lead to geometric results. Nancy Scherich is a PhD student at UC Santa Barbara and received her MS in Mathematics from OSU in 2013.
