This is a talk in the graduate seminar MTH 607: Building Inclusive, Equitable, Respectful and Welcoming Mathematical Communities.

Our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students and employees can feel invisible on our campus and may sometimes find the climate uninviting or not inclusive. The purpose of the Safe Zone training is to reduce homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism within the mathematics department, thereby, make our department a safer environment for all of us regardless of our sexual orientation or gender identification. The mathematics department strives to foster a work and learning environment that respects and welcomes all differences, so a Safe Zone training would be an active and visible response to the support of this mission.
