Abstract:

A "ghost solution" to the Navier-Stokes equations is defined as a non-stationary solution whose energy and enstrophy are nevertheless constant in time. In this talk we will show that such ghost solutions can exist only outside the (weak) global attractor. We will begin with an overview of some important classical results in the area, whose proofs we will build upon to reach our result. We will then place this result in a broader context. This is joint work with Radu Dascaliuc.
