Speaker Info

Local Speaker:

The van Hiele theoretical framework was first posed in the 1950's but it continues to have an important influence to this day. In this seminar we will discuss two papers:
1) a short paper that represents one of van Hiele's first articulations of his theory (considered one of the "classics" in mathematics education) and
2) a journal article reporting a groundbreaking research study from the 1980's that was conducted my mathematics education researchers right here at Oregon State University (William Burger and Michael Shaughnessy).
