Abstract:

Whether or not singularities develop in the solution of the unforced 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations (NSEs) still remains an open problem, yet there is an extensive literature on the sufficient conditions for the regularity of solutions of NSEs. In this talk, I will start with a brief survey of assorted regularity criteria then discuss vortex alignment phenomena which lead us to understand the regularity problem of NSEs.
