Research from the past 30 years has led to an almost complete classification of asphericity as it occurs in relative group presentations <G,x: w> where the relative relator w has length four in the free product G*<x>. Infinite families of non-aspherical presentations have been identified exhibiting interesting combinatorial, topological, and number-theoretic properties. We discuss one such family involving the case where the relative relator has the form w = x^r*g*x^-s*g. This is joint work with Kirk McDermott of the Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
