The goal of numerical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations is to extend the accuracy, reliability and predictive ability of numerical simulations of fluid motion. This extension means improving the complexity (space, computational and cognitive) of current methods. This talk will present 5 recent ideas and a key step in the mathematical foundation of each that have promise to do so. This talk should be understandable by graduate students who have seen how to perform the basic energy estimate for the Navier-Stokes equations.
