Abstract:

In a recent series of papers, C DeLellis, L Szekelydhi (DL_S) and collaborators have developed a method for constructing weak solutions of the Euler equation with a prescribed energy profile. In particular, connections of these solutions with `measure-valued solutions' of the Euler equations introduced by DiPerna and Majda in 1987, are established. In this series of talks, I will present an overview of the main results and ideas of DL_S as developed in the paper by these authors published in Vol 49 of the Bulletin of the AMS. The second part will be devoted to an introduction to measure valued solutions and a particular 2d example constructed by C Greengard and myself.
