Katherine Socha is an associate professor of mathematics at St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM), a public liberal arts honors college. She has been a tenure track assistant professor at Michigan State University, a co-director of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics whydomath outreach project, founder/advisor of the SMCM Women in Science House, and director of the SMCM/NREUP summer REU for under-represented students at SMCM. Katherine won both the MAA Alder Award for distinguished teaching by a junior faculty member and the MAA Ford Award for expository excellence. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Anneli Lax New Mathematical Library, the SIAM Education Committee, and the MAA Working Group on Periodicals and Publications. Katherine is currently on leave of absence from SMCM, about to begin a one-year appointment in the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program with placement at the National Science Foundation, Division of Mathematical Sciences.
