Abstract:

Commercial air transport in rural and remote areas of the U.S. has
a long history. From the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, to the
Essential Air Service program (EAS), this lecture highlights costs
and identifies inefficiencies in the allocation of EAS resources, and
explores strategies to facilitate federal appropriations reductions
without sacrificing existing geographic service needs.

The talk will involve lots of linear programming and optimization.
