Abstract:

During February and April of this year, I participated in two workshops on mathematics and climate at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. These meetings were organized by NCAR's Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences (IMAGe), whose mission includes the promotion of interaction between mathematicians and geoscientists. In this talk, I will summarize some of the talks and discussions at those workshops. The goal is to give a sense of some current issues in climate science and how mathematicians might get involved.
