Abstract:

This is the second of a pair of seminars on Stein's method. The plan is to indicate further applications of Stein's general approach to convergence of random variables. First we will see how his original idea can be used to characterize a variety of distributions. This will be followed by a new application of Stein's method to Polya's urn using a Stein characterization of the Beta distribution.
