Professor Emeritus
Department of Mathematics

Biography

Adel Faridani received his Diplom in Physics (1982) and Ph. D. in Applied Mathematics (1988) from the University of Münster, Germany. He came to Oregon State University in 1989 on a Feodor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and joined the department’s faculty in 1990. In 2024 he was named Professor Emeritus.

Research

Faridani's research involves both theoretical and numerical work in Shannon Sampling Theory and Computed Tomography. His current focus is in sampling theory, where he works on non-equidistant sampling theorems for bandlimited functions. His contributions to tomography include results on optimal sampling and resolution; error estimates for reconstruction algorithms; and the theory and implementation of local tomography.
