Mathematical skill and ability empower students in profound ways, making it possible for them to pursue a wide variety of jobs in industry and research, gain economic mobility and make vital contributions to our world. Yet a recent report by the Mathematical Association of America says that “mathematics courses are the most significant barrier to degree completion in STEM and non-STEM courses."

Research in mathematics education therefore not only serves to improve Oregon State University's mathematics program but also serves as a cornerstone of success for all STEM fields.
