When working in labs, or when joining large projects, interns and other participants typically do not develop software "from scratch". Rather, they work with frameworks which have been vetted and tested by the community; participants can develop their own versions or contribute back as needed. In order to use a framework on a local computer, source code must be downloaded, e.g., from github, and installed on said local computer. In this talk we demonstrate the process of how to get started with using frameworks for simulations and visualization of numerical PDEs including deal.II, Paraview, and HybGe-Flow3D. Then, we explore the applications of the libraries that we have found in our research work. Finally, we show how to use the data generated by these libraries in Paraview to create quality images.

Live demos will be presented: the seminar will be best viewed in person.
