Mission statement

Lathisms (Latinx and Hispanics in the Mathematical Sciences) was founded in 2016 with the mission of showcasing the contributions of Latinx and Hispanic mathematicians during Hispanic Heritage Month United States from September 15 and October 15. Our goal is to provide an accessible platform that features the multifaceted and diverse nature of the Latinx and Hispanic mathematics community and inspire the younger generation of Latinx mathematicians. Mathematically Gifted & Black

“To be young, gifted and black”; is a common phrase used in the Black community. It comes from a song famously sung by Ms. Nina Simone and co-written by Weldon Irvine. Erica Graham, Raegan Higgins, Shelby Wilson, and Candice Price, had a conference call discussing the creation of a website that would highlight the contributions and lives of Black mathematicians. Inspired by the work of Lathisms and emboldened by the film Hidden Figures, they created the website “Mathematically Gifted and Black”. The name not only pays homage to the song so well known and loved within the Black community but is itself a tribute to those whose story may never have been told.

Indigenous Mathematicians

Mission statement

This website seeks to put together all the known information about Indigenous Mathematicians. We recognize that Native People have been doing mathematics (and hence have been mathematicians) for millennia. However here, we use “mathematician” to mean someone formally trained in mathematics in the Western academic system and/or someone who practices mathematics in their profession. Thus we may potentially include those with non-terminal mathematics degrees.

Association for Women in Mathematics

The AWM’s mission is to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences, supporting individuals and institutions as we all work to make a more just and equitable community. Achieving this vision relies on the continued efforts of AWM’s committees and the work that they do.

Math Alliance

Mission statement

We want to be sure that every underrepresented or underserved American student with the talent and the ambition has the opportunity to earn a doctoral degree in a mathematical or statistical science. Our commitment is to build a national community of students, faculty, and staff who will work together to transform our departments, colleges, and universities into institutions where all students are welcome. Our mentors come from a variety of schools all over the country. What they all have in common is a commitment to our Math Alliance Scholars.

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

Mission statement

Founded in 2010, the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity is an independent professional development, training, and mentoring community for faculty members, postdocs, and graduate students. We are 100% dedicated to supporting academics in making successful transitions throughout their careers.

National Association of Mathematicians

Mission Statement

The National Association of Mathematicians (NAM) is a non-profit professional organization in the mathematical sciences with membership open to all persons interested in the mission and purpose of NAM which are: 1) promoting excellence in the mathematical sciences and 2) promoting the mathematical development of all underrepresented minorities.
