Research
Professor Gibson investigates problems in the general areas of Applied and Computational Mathematics with specific interests in Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Inverse Problems and Uncertainty Quantification. An important class of problems called PDE-constrained optimization under uncertainty requires techniques from each of these topics.
His primary research interests are: computational electromagnetics, finite element and finite difference methods, parameter identification and sensitivity analysis, optimal control and optimization, random ODE's and PDE's, homogenization.
