Ralph Showalter joined the Mathematics Department at Oregon State University in the Fall of 2003. Previously he held the Blumberg Centennial Professorship in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin and was a founding member of ICES, now the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences. He has held visiting positions at Purdue University, VPI & State University, University of Augsburg, and Brown University. He has published over 100 research papers, served as referee for 20 research journals, and he is a member of the editorial boards of ten journals; he has supervised 20 Ph.D. dissertations.

Ph.D., University of Illinois, 1968

Research Field:
Partial Differential Equations
Research Description:

Research interests include singular or degenerate nonlinear evolution equations and partial differential equations, variational inequalities, free-boundary problems, and related applications to initial-boundary-value problems of mechanics and diffusion. Current work is focused on the development of multiphysics mathematical models of coupled fluid-solid dynamics, deformable porous media, and upscaled models of transport and flow in heterogeneous media. - Panta Rhei
